Auckland Swimming Competition Structure
United Swimming Club is affiliated to Auckland Swimming Association (ASA) and operates within the competition structure prescribed by ASA.
ASA runs it competitive meets with a combination of:
- Level meets: there are three levels (1,2,3). Swimmers begin as Level 3 swimmers and then move up to Level 2 and Level 1 by meeting criteria based on race times achieved for specific events
- Open and Age Group Championship meets; swimmers are eligible to compete in these meets based on meeting specified qualification times for each event
In January 2020 ASA announced that they have restructured the Level 1 and 2 criteria and qualifying times for Auckland swimming competitions – please read the following from ASA
The Competitive Swimming Group have spent the last 4 months reviewing the ASA Level Competitions and as a result have re-set the qualifying times and age-groups for both Level 1 and Level 2.
The new times are based on FINA Points so as to achieve consistency and the new age-groups reflect the differences in male and female athlete development.
These will now provide goals for swimmers and coaches, and also encourage the all-round development of techniques and skills across a range of distances and disciplines.
