Joining United Swimming Club

Thank you for your interest in joining United.  Please follow these simple steps to join either United’s competitive squads or Multi-sport (non-competitive) squad.

Joining a competitive training squad

1.  Free assessment 

The first step is to bring your swimmer in for a free swimming assessment with Larissa Polianskaia, one of our coaches.  This assessment enables us to determine the most appropriate squad for your swimmer by understanding their current swimming level, discussing what their goals are and answering any questions that you or your swimmer have.

All assessments are undertaken by Larissa at the Epsom Aquatic Centre, located off Silver Road in Epsom.  To organise a convenient time for your assessment please contact Larissa by email or phone/txt her on 021 078 4100.  If you are emailing or txting please provide your swimmer’s name, age and the day you would like to come for an assessment. 

We understand that deciding to join a club is an important decision and that your swimmer wants to be sure that United is the right choice for them.  Sometimes it can be difficult to determine this based on one assessment.  Therefore, if required, we can accommodate your swimmer trialling with our training squads; please discuss this option with Larissa.

2.  Squad confirmation

After your assessment, Larissa will advise you which squad is most appropriate for your swimmer and whether there are available spaces in that squad.  If there is an available space then please move onto step 3 below.  If the relevant squad is currently full then we will place your swimmer on the waiting list and advise you as soon as a space becomes available.

3.  Documentation

The next step that you need to do is to complete and return the following documents:

Club registration form

Please download and complete this form and return it by either scanning and emailing it to the United Club Administrator or posting it to PO Box 128-186, Remuera, Auckland 1541.

Swimming NZ registration

Swimming NZ also requires contact details.  The Swimming NZ constitution entitles them to provide your contact details to third parties for marketing and promotional purposes.  If you do not want to provide your email address to Swimming NZ then please complete a second copy of the Club registration form with just your swimmer’s name, gender and date of birth and return it to the United Club Registrar and we will provide that form to Swimming NZ.  Otherwise we will provide Swimming NZ with a copy of your Club registration form.

Transfer form

If you are already a member of a club that is affiliated to Auckland Swimming (ASA) then you are required to download and complete a transfer form to enable your club membership to be transferred to United. The transfer process must be initiated by the swimmer or their parents and requires the swimmer’s previous club to sign the transfer and then it needs to be sent to ASA with the transfer fee of $20 attached.  ASA say to allow 30 days for them to process the transfer from the time they receive it.

If your swimmer is transferring from a club that is affiliated to a regional association other than ASA (eg Swimming Waikato) then you need to use the transfer form of that regional association and follow their transfer process and pay their transfer fees. The transfer forms should go from your swimmer’s previous club to its regional association for approval and then to ASA.

4.  Fees and uniform

When your squad has been confirmed and you have completed the required club registration forms you will be emailed an invoice with the membership and training fees - these are summarised under Programmes and Timetables in the Members' section of this website.  These fees are required to be paid before your swimmer commences training with United. Welcome to United!

Uniforms

All United members that enter competitive swim meets are required to wear United uniform.  Please read the uniform policy, which also includes a link to the order form for all the uniform items.

Joining the multi-sport squad

1.  Free assessment and trial

As with the competitive squads, the first step is to bring your swimmer in for a free swimming assessment and trial to ensure that this squad is appropriate for your swimmer. 

This squad is coached by Khaled El-Seaidy and trains at the Epsom Aquatic Centre located off Silver Road, Epsom from 7-8am on each of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the school term.  You are welcome to bring your swimmer in for a free trial on any of these mornings; please contact Khaled either by email or phone/txt on 022 188 5483 to let him know your swimmer’s name, age and which day you will be coming in.

2.  Squad confirmation

After your free assessment and trial, Khaled will advise you if this squad is appropriate for your swimmer and whether there are available spaces in this squad.  If there is an available space then please move onto step 3 below.  If the squad is currently full then we will place your swimmer on the waiting list and advise you as soon as a space becomes available.
